Booniverse

Terms of Service

Last updated: 10 September 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Booniverse Inc. ("Booniverse", "we", "us") for use of the Booniverse app. By creating an account you accept them. If you don't accept them, don't use Booniverse.

Please also read our Privacy Policy, Medical Disclaimer, Community Guidelines and Code of Conduct. They're part of this agreement.

1. Booniverse is not therapy or medical care

This is the most important thing in this document.

Booniverse offers peer support: other users, most of them young people, who volunteer to listen. They are not therapists, counsellors, doctors, nurses or crisis workers. They have completed a short in-app training module and nothing more. Nothing in Booniverse — including anything a listener says, anything the Moon reflection generates, or any Boo-Logy result — is medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line immediately. Booniverse is not an emergency service and nobody is guaranteed to be watching.

The full Medical Disclaimer sets this out in detail and you agreed to it when you signed up.

2. Who can use Booniverse

You must be 13 or older. If you're under the age of legal majority where you live, you confirm that you're allowed to use a service like this.

You need to give us a real email address, a username, and your date of birth. One account per person. Don't create an account for someone else, don't impersonate anyone, and don't sell or transfer your account.

Where Booniverse is available. Booniverse is offered in the United States only. Our App Store and Google Play listings are limited to US territories, and these terms are written for users in the US. If you're outside the US, please don't use Booniverse — we'd rather open a country properly than serve it badly.

Being available in the US only is a legal and billing boundary, not a statement about who is on the other end of a chat. The crisis resources in our Medical Disclaimer list international lines on purpose.

3. Your account

4. What you may not do

The Community Guidelines are the full list. The short version — do not:

5. Your content

You keep ownership of everything you write and upload.

You give us a licence to store, display and transmit your content for the purpose of operating Booniverse — for example showing your forum post to other users, delivering your note to its recipient, or generating a Moon reflection. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we need to retain something for safety, legal or accounting reasons.

We don't use your content to train AI models.

You're responsible for what you post. Don't post things you don't have the right to post.

6. Moderation, suspension and banning

We check content automatically and we review reports. We can remove content, restrict features, suspend your account, or ban you permanently — including without warning where the situation is serious.

Strikes and suspensions are applied automatically when your content is flagged, and escalate with repeat behaviour. Serious violations — sexual content involving minors, credible threats, grooming — result in an immediate permanent ban.

Appeals. If you think we got it wrong, email [email protected]. Tell us your Boo ID and what happened. A person will review it and reply — within 5 business days, and sooner where we can.

If a ban was applied automatically and we find it was wrong, we'll lift it and restore your account.

7. BOO, purchases and Boo+

Buying things if you're under 18. Purchases are authorised and billed by Apple or Google, not by us, and both offer family controls that require a parent's approval before a child can buy anything — Ask to Buy on the App Store, and parental approval on Google Play. If a purchase was made on your account without permission, that request goes to Apple or Google.

8. Volunteering as a listener

If you complete the volunteer training you can take support requests from other users.

9. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → About → Delete Account.

Deletion removes your profile, journals, reflections, notes, anonymous posts, contacts, notifications, listener records, uploaded images and your sign-in. Forum posts, comments and chat messages are redacted — your name and content are removed, but the entry stays so other people's conversations and threads don't break. This can't be undone.

Some records are kept after deletion where we're required to, or for safety purposes — moderation and safety records, and purchase records we need for accounting. See the Privacy Policy for detail.

If your account is suspended or banned when you delete it, deleting does not lift the sanction — we retain a scrambled record of your email so it can still be enforced.

10. Our liability

We want to be straight with you about what Booniverse is and isn't responsible for. Please read this section — it's short, and it matters.

Support here comes from volunteers, not from us. Listeners are other users. They completed a short in-app training module and nothing else. They are not our employees, contractors or agents, we don't supervise their conversations, and we are not responsible for what they say to you or for any advice they give. The same is true of anything any other user posts.

Nobody is on duty. Booniverse is not a crisis service, a helpline, or a monitored service. We don't read conversations in real time, and we don't promise that a listener will be available, that anyone will reply, or that a reply will arrive within any particular time. Never wait for Booniverse in an emergency — use the numbers in our Medical Disclaimer.

Our safety systems will sometimes miss things. We use automated moderation and we act on reports, but no system catches everything. Content that breaks our rules may reach you before we remove it, and we're not liable for our automated checks failing to catch something — though we will always act once we know.

What happens between users is between users. We're not responsible for how other users behave, for what they do with something you tell them, or for anything that happens if you take a conversation off Booniverse. We strongly recommend that you don't — moving to another app removes every protection we have.

Moon reflections are generated by software. They're prompts for your own thinking, not insight, advice or assessment. Don't rely on them for any decision that matters.

The limits of all of this. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else the law does not allow us to exclude. Many of our users are minors, and nothing here removes a protection the law gives you because of your age. Where liability can be limited, and to the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Your store rights are unaffected. Purchases are made through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and nothing here overrides the rights their terms give you, including their refund policies.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is significant we'll notify you in the app and ask you to accept the new version before continuing. Your agreement is recorded against a version number.
